What exactly is Selphyl PRP?
Selphyl is a brand name for a Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) treatment. It is not a product – rather, it is a “system” that promotes natural tissue regeneration by the body. It can also be used to stimulate hair regrowth.
How does Selphyl PRP work?
There are three steps to a Selphyl treatment:
- A blood sample is collected from the patient.
- The blood sample is spun in a centrifuge so that the red blood cells are removed, leaving behind the plasma (clear liquid portion of the blood). Plasma is rich in platelets which are essential for stimulating healthy collagen production.
- The plasma is then injected into those areas that require correction. The platelets will begin to stimulate natural collagen production in the injected areas.
Which areas can be improved by Selphyl PRP?
The most common areas treated include: under eyes, neck, hands, scalp, and face, especially those areas where the skin is thin and crepey. When treating the face, we typically do not inject the plasma. Instead, the plasma is applied topically after a microneedling treatment. This face treatment is commonly referred to as “Vampire Facial”.
Can Selphyl PRP be used instead of dermal filler?
No, Selphyl is not a substitute for dermal filler. Dermal filler is used to restore volume, whereas Selphyl stimulates natural skin rejuvenation. However, both treatments may be combined for optimal results.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients require three treatments, spaced approximately one month apart.
When will I see results from Selphyl PRP?
Skin rejuvenation is a process that continues over time. You may not see visible results until after your second or third treatment, and they will continue to improve over a period of several months. Results can be long-lasting depending on lifestyle, and how well you care for your skin. Use of a daily sunscreen of at least SPF30 is essential.
Is there any recovery time after Selphyl PRP treatment?
Any injectable treatment may be accompanied by some minor swelling, redness, or bruising. These effects are temporary and should not affect your normal activities, however it is good idea to schedule your treatment at least two weeks before any major social engagement. Most patients are able to resume regular activities immediately after the treatment.
