Facial Veins & Capillaries
The capillaries on the face that make up your facial veins are very small blood vessels that are located just beneath the surface of your skin. When they are damaged, they manifest as thin lines of color, often red, blue, or purple. The nose, chin, and cheeks are the most common locations for facial veins, also known as broken capillaries(telangiectasia).
Broken capillaries are typically a symptom of rosacea, chronic sun exposure, inflammation/sensitivity, high blood pressure, or aging, and may also be hereditary in nature. Broken capillaries on the face may affect both women and men, and they tend to become more numerous and prominent over time. They can be bothersome because they are very difficult to camouflage, and are impossible to treat without medical intervention.
Laser therapy is very effective to remove facial veins and overall skin redness. Once vessels have been treated they will not return, although it is possible that new vessels may form over time, particularly if one is prone to them.
Long-term results to remove veins and capillaries on the face are possible as long as the patient can be diligent in protecting their skin and minimizing inflammation. This includes daily use of a chemical-free sunscreen and controlling those triggers that contribute to skin redness.
