The future of skincare is all about au naturel.
Primers, foundations, and highlighters are still going to be used to get that “healthy” glow, but women are tired of hiding blemishes and skin imperfections under their makeup. They’re embracing antioxidants, collagen, and natural skin remedies to banish flaws in 2022 – it’s all about rejuvenating the skin the natural way this coming year.
Follow along for 2022’s top skincare trends!
Skin experts say you will see more of these skincare trends in 2022:
Skin acids and exfoliants are good for the skin to a certain extent. Using them excessively will weaken your skin barrier (outermost layer of the epidermis) and cause inflammation.
To strengthen the skin and its microbiome, dermatologists recommend steering away from harsh ingredients and switching to skincare products with natural anti-inflammatory ingredients like Japanese Indigo.
Skin experts predict we will see more of this plant in skincare ingredient lists this year. That’s because Japanese Indigo contains tryptanthrin and indirubin, two chemical compounds that flush away toxins, reduce inflammation, and support the skin’s natural barrier function.
Since 2022 is the year of all things natural, dermatologists say there will be a resurgence of natural beauty bar soaps—but with a few tweaks.
They’ll be wrapped in eco-friendly materials and will contain natural ingredients from plant sources you wouldn’t expect: snow mushrooms, flax, rice, prickly pear… and you guessed it— Japanese Indigo!
These new-age beauty bars won’t just get rid of bacteria like regular soap; they will also be formulated to target specific skin conditions.
Skincare treatments you can use at home, like face masks, are on the rise as people in quarantine have to take care of their skin on their own. But they want something more—something that has immediate results.
This is where innovative tools and devices in the skincare industry can help you get on top of your topical skincare routine to invigorate your skin and help bring your glow back. This includes products such as:
The popularity of jade rollers will continue to rise this year because they are safe, effective, and can be used at home. But how are jade rollers beneficial for your skin?
Massaging the face, neck, and eye area with a jade roller helps push toxins through the lymphatic system to improve circulation. The result? Brighter and healthier-looking skin.
When refrigerated, the coldness of the stone also reduces puffiness. After a few weeks of regular use, you will notice that your skin will start to tighten too.
Jade rollers also help the skin absorb topical products better, so it’s best to apply a serum or moisturizer before rolling away.
If you have ever tried putting ice cubes on your eyes and face to take down some of that morning puffiness, that’s kind of like cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy, or cold therapy as it is commonly called, is the use of cold temperature to increase blood flow to the skin to make it look more radiant and healthy.
The problem is, putting the ice directly on your skin can cause rashes. It might also cause broken skin capillaries resulting in spider veins.
Instead of possibly damaging your skin with a DIY treatment, skin experts recommend using cryo-facial tools like cryo recovery masks, cryo rollers, and ice globes. This way, you’ll get the benefits of a cryo-facial without the risks.
Experts also predict that LED light masks will be one of the top skincare industry trends in 2022. LED light masks have a great safety profile—they’re non-invasive and emit no UV light, so they’re safe to use at home if you follow the proper instructions.
But, do they actually work? Studies show they do.
The red light from these masks targets fibroblasts to stimulate collagen production and reduce wrinkles, especially around the eyes. On the other hand, yellow light reduces redness, while green light lessens pigmentation.
Finally, blue light is said to reduce acne and make pores smaller. However, the true effects of blue light are still murky and need further research.
A lot of people are aware of the importance of using sunscreen, but many still don’t slather on some SPF before going out. Skin experts say 2022 will be a year of more people incorporating it into their skincare routine.
Sunscreen is crucial if you don’t want your skincare efforts to go to waste. It will take you weeks, or even months, to get tangible results from your skincare routine, but the sun’s UV rays can cause damage in just a few minutes.
Sunscreen is not just a skincare industry trend for 2022—it will remain a skincare necessity for as long as the sun continues to shine.
Skincare trends in 2022 are about natural solutions that really work.
But natural or not, skincare products will only work if they’re what your skin needs. To find out what product or treatment is most suitable for you, your skin must be analyzed by a skincare expert first.
